Bars & Nightlife

After Dark

Alexandria isn’t a nightlife destination and nobody pretends it is. But there are plenty of places to grab a drink, catch a game, play some pool, or listen to live music on a weekend. The bar scene here leans casual and welcoming — you can show up in jeans and a flannel and fit in just about anywhere.

Sports Bars

A few spots around town have the multiple-TVs-and-burgers setup for watching Vikings games, Wild games, or whatever’s on. They get loud on game days in a good way. Most serve a full food menu alongside the drinks.

Dive Bars

Every small town has its dive bars, and Alexandria is no exception. These are the places where the pool table has seen better days, the jukebox still works, and a tap beer costs what it should. They’re institutions. Respect them.

Live Music

Several bars bring in live music on weekends, especially in summer. Cover bands, solo acoustic acts, and the occasional original artist. Check local event listings or just drive down Broadway on a Friday night and listen for the noise.

Last Call

Minnesota bars close at 2 AM. Most places in Alexandria wind down around midnight on weeknights and stay busier on Fridays and Saturdays. Plan a ride if you need one — it’s a small town but the roads are still roads.
