Where to Eat in Alexandria
Alexandria has more restaurants than you’d expect for a town this size, and most of them are locally owned. You won’t find a lot of chains on Broadway — what you will find is supper clubs that have been open for decades, newer spots doing creative things with local ingredients, and everything in between.
The Supper Club Tradition
Minnesota supper clubs are a specific thing — relish trays, old fashioneds, prime rib on Saturday night, and a dining room that hasn’t changed much since 1975. Alexandria still has a few of these, and they’re worth experiencing whether you grew up with them or have no idea what a relish tray is.
Newer Spots
The restaurant scene has expanded in recent years. Wood-fired pizza, scratch-made Mexican food, poke bowls, and farm-to-table menus have all shown up alongside the traditional options. Downtown and the lakes both have good concentrations of restaurants.
Practical Notes
Summers are busy — especially lakeside spots on weekends. Reservations aren’t always available at smaller places, so showing up a little early helps. Off-season (October through April), some restaurants reduce hours or close certain days. Call ahead if you’re driving out specifically for somewhere.
