Alexandria Area High School

Home of the Cardinals

Alexandria Area High School serves grades 9-12 and is the only public high school in the district. It’s a comprehensive high school offering a full range of academics, athletics, and activities. For a school its size, the breadth of what’s available is impressive.

Academics

The curriculum includes standard college prep tracks, Advanced Placement courses, and career and technical education pathways. PSEO partnerships with Alexandria Technical College and other institutions let motivated students earn college credits while still in high school. The school also offers special education services and English language learner support.

Athletics

The Cardinals compete in a wide range of MSHSL sports — football, basketball, hockey, volleyball, swimming, track and field, wrestling, baseball, softball, soccer, tennis, golf, and more. The school has produced state-level competitors in multiple sports. Athletic facilities are well-maintained and include a stadium, gymnasium complex, pool, and outdoor fields.

Arts & Activities

Band and choir programs are strong, with students regularly qualifying for state-level competitions. The theatre program produces multiple shows per year. Student clubs cover everything from robotics and academic teams to student government and community service. Most students are involved in something beyond the classroom.

The Culture

AAHS has the feel of a school where most people know each other — which is both its strength and its challenge. There’s genuine school spirit and community pride. Homecoming is a real event. Graduation matters. For students who thrive in close-knit environments, it’s a good place to grow up.
