Community Education
Learning Beyond School
Alexandria’s Community Education program offers classes, activities, and enrichment opportunities for people of all ages — from toddlers to retirees. It’s run through the school district and is one of those community resources that people don’t know about until someone tells them.
What’s Offered
The catalog changes seasonally but typically includes fitness classes, art and craft workshops, cooking classes, technology training, language courses, personal finance seminars, and recreational activities. There are youth programs during school breaks and after school. Adult enrichment covers everything from pottery to pickleball instruction.
Youth Programs
Summer programs and camps for school-age kids are a big part of the community education lineup. These fill a critical childcare gap for working families while giving kids structured activities during breaks. Early childhood programs serve the youngest learners with play-based developmental activities.
Adult & Senior Programs
Adults can take classes purely for interest — learn a new skill, try a new hobby, or stay active. Senior-focused programs offer social connection alongside learning, which matters in a community where winter isolation is a real concern. Fitness classes adapted for older adults are popular year-round.
How to Sign Up
Class catalogs are published seasonally and available through the district website. Registration is typically online. Costs are modest — community education is subsidized through the school district and priced to be accessible. Popular classes fill up, so register early when the new catalog drops.
