Elementary Schools
Early Education
Alexandria’s elementary schools serve students from kindergarten through 5th grade across multiple buildings throughout the community. Each school draws from a different geographic area of town, giving each building a slightly different character while maintaining district-wide curriculum standards.
The Schools
Lincoln, Voyager, and Discovery are the main elementary buildings. Each has its own identity, staff culture, and community of families. Early childhood programs and pre-kindergarten are also offered through the district for younger learners, including programs for children with developmental needs.
What to Expect
Class sizes are reasonable by Minnesota standards. The schools offer core academics along with art, music, physical education, and library services. Special education support is integrated throughout the system. The district has invested in technology in recent years, with devices available for student use across grade levels.
For New Families
If you’re moving to Alexandria with young kids, enrollment is handled through the district office. School assignment is based on your address, though the district may accommodate requests in some cases. Before and after school care options are available through community programs. The transition into a new school is generally smooth — teachers and staff are experienced with new families moving to the area.
