Broadway Street Guide

Alexandria’s Main Street

Broadway Street is the spine of downtown Alexandria. It runs north-south through the center of town, and most of what makes downtown worth visiting sits along it or within a block of it. This is where you shop, eat, get your hair cut, and bump into people you know.

North End

The north stretch of Broadway has a mix of professional services, a few restaurants, and some retail. It transitions from commercial to residential as you head further north. This end is less walkable as a shopping district but has some specific destinations worth knowing about.

Central Broadway

This is the core — roughly from 3rd Avenue to 7th Avenue. The highest concentration of shops, restaurants, and services sits in this stretch. Parking is angled along the street with additional lots behind the buildings. On a summer Saturday, this section has genuine foot traffic and energy.

South End

South Broadway leads toward the lakes and includes a few restaurants, the chamber of commerce area, and transitions into the residential neighborhoods near Lake Agnes and City Park. It’s a pleasant walk or bike ride from downtown to the lake.

Getting Around

Downtown is walkable. You can cover the main commercial stretch in 15-20 minutes on foot without rushing. Street parking is free and usually available — worst case you’re a block or two off Broadway. There’s no parking meter system and no time limits on most spots.
