Lake Le Homme Dieu
The Scenic One
Lake Le Homme Dieu — locals just call it “Le Homme Dieu” or sometimes “LHD” — is one of the most scenic lakes in the chain. It covers about 1,100 acres with a mix of wooded shoreline, gentle bays, and open water. The name is French for “Lake of the Man of God,” dating back to early missionaries in the area.
Theatre & Culture
Theatre L’Homme Dieu sits on the north shore and has been producing live summer theatre since the 1960s. It’s one of the oldest continuously operating summer theatres in Minnesota. Catching a show here on a warm evening is one of those Alexandria experiences people remember.
Fishing
Le Homme Dieu is a solid walleye and bass lake. It’s less pressured than Carlos, which some anglers prefer. The weed beds along the south shore hold good numbers of largemouth in summer. Panfish are abundant and make it a great lake for kids learning to fish.
Access
Public access is available on the south end of the lake. The ramp is manageable but not huge — weekday mornings are the easiest launch times.
