Douglas County Fair

The County Fair

The Douglas County Fair is a multi-day summer event that hits all the classic county fair notes — livestock shows, carnival rides, demolition derby, grandstand entertainment, and enough fried food to fuel a small army. It’s held at the Douglas County Fairgrounds and has been a summer tradition for generations.

What’s There

4-H and FFA kids showing animals they’ve raised all year. Carnival rides that range from tame to questionable. A midway with games. Commercial buildings with vendor booths. Beer gardens. Live entertainment on the grandstand stage. The demolition derby is usually the biggest single draw — it sells out or comes close.

Food

Fair food is its own category. Corn dogs, mini donuts, cheese curds, cotton candy, roasted corn, and whatever new deep-fried experiment someone came up with that year. Eating your way through the fairgrounds is half the experience. Bring cash — some vendors are card-only averse.

When & Where

The fair runs for several days in mid to late summer — exact dates shift year to year. The fairgrounds are on the edge of Alexandria and easy to get to. Parking is available on-site and in adjacent areas. Admission is typically charged at the gate, with separate tickets for rides and grandstand events. Check the Douglas County Fair website or social media for the current year’s schedule and pricing.
