Live Music & Concerts
Where to Hear Music
Alexandria has a surprisingly active live music scene for its size. It’s not Nashville — but between the bars, parks, wineries, and event venues, you can catch live music most weekends from May through September, and regularly through the winter too.
Bar & Restaurant Music
Several bars and restaurants around town book live music on Friday and Saturday nights. Expect cover bands, solo acoustic acts, and the occasional original artist. The genre leans toward rock, country, and classic covers — this is west-central Minnesota, after all. Quality varies, but the good acts develop local followings and play regularly.
Outdoor Music
Summer brings outdoor music events — concerts in the park, live music at Carlos Creek Winery, and performances tied to festivals and community events. These are usually family-friendly, bring-your-own-chair situations. Evenings by the lake with live music in the background is one of Alexandria’s best offerings.
Theatre L’Homme Dieu
While primarily a theatre venue, L’Homme Dieu occasionally features musical performances and cabaret-style shows during their summer season. It’s a different vibe from the bar scene — more polished, seated, and intentional. Worth checking their schedule.
Finding Shows
There’s no single calendar that captures everything. Check local bar and restaurant social media pages, the Alexandria Echo Press events section, and community Facebook groups. Word of mouth still works too — ask a bartender what’s happening this weekend.
